On matters breeding, the first progeny of Gleneagles won at Newbury on Friday and the first son of American Pharaoh to run in Europe, MONARCH OF EGYPT, won at Naas this afternoon.

It certainly has been a strong start of for the first season sires up here.

He had a nice 3-y-o win at Sandown in the Derby Trial on Friday - a horse called BANGKOK (Australia - Tanaghum ex Darshaan). Incidentally, BANGKOK's older half-brother MATTERHORN is the champion all-weather horse over here and defeated WISSAHICKON over 2000m on Good Friday at Lingfield.

Haven't seen any of his second crop of juveniles as yet but it's early days. His best 3-y-o would be the Ballysax winner BROOME.

I thought BANGKOK showed a bit of temperament at Sandown and I'm not convinced he'll enjoy Epsom.

Back to matters breeding and in the rush of Royal Ascot I missed the news EMINENT is heading to New Zealand to stand as a stallion at Brighthill Farm for an introductory fee of NZ$ 8,000.

He's the first son of Frankel to stand in New Zealand to my knowledge:

I may be biased but that looks a real bargain. Frankel's considerable profile over here was boosted by ANAPURNA winning the Oaks.

On matters breeding, the dual Ascot winner BLUE POINT will, as expected, stand at Kildangan Stud alongside his sire SHAMARDAL and strengthen Godolphin's Irish operation.

Sad news from Germany with the death of DREAMING EYES, a 2-y-o filly by Frankel out of 2011 Arc winner Danedream. The mare hasn't had a happy time with her progeny - her first two colts, both by Frankel, ended up in Japan having done nothing. On the other hand, FAILAQ, her 2016 colt by Dubawi, has won his last two having been bought for 1.5 million guineas by Shadwell at last autumn's Tattersalls Sale and runs again at Ascot on Saturday.

Danedream also has a Frankel yearling filly and a Dubawi colt foal so perhaps one of those will be the breakthrough offspring for the mare.
