Stallion information from Coolmore for 2018 in Britain and Europe has been released.

GALILEO remains the star but the fee is private while FASTNET ROCK is back on offer for 70,000 euros. New additions to the stallion ranks will be CARAVAGGIO, CHURCHILL and HIGHLAND REEL

http://coolmore.com/coolmore-fees-2018/?farm=ireland

I imagine CHURCHILL and HIGHLAND REEL will be over 100,000 euros in their first season.

That they do but it all comes back to GALILEO and its his progeny who are the ones everyone wants. The hunt for the "next big thing" is very much on up here - FRANKEL is now available at £175,000 after the success of CRACKSMAN and others but it's about finding that cross to the top Galileo mares that has Coolmore (and others) guessing.

Just a couple of snippets from the bloodstock world this morning.

ULYSSES will stand at Cheveley Park Stud with a fee of £30,000 which seems very reasonable while the new star on the stallion scene is MEDAGLIA D'ORO who sired two winners, BAR OF GOLD and TALISMANIC, at the Breeders Cup last weekend.

His fee for the 2018 covering season has been increased to £250k. MEDAGLIA D'ORO is by El Prado out of a Bailjumper mare, a line of which I know almost nothing. He was a very good horse on the Dirt and his top progeny so far have been the champions RACHEL ALEXANDRA and SONGBIRD but TALISMANIC may be his break through into the European turf scene and that could obviously be huge for Darley and it will be fascinating to see if Coolmore send any Galileo mares over to be covered in the coming year.

Normally it's all about stallions but today it's about the mares.

The December Mares Sale at Park Paddocks in Newmarket has seen some very good prospective broodmares go through the ring for some very fancy prices.

Top of the shop has been MARSHA, winner of the 2016 Abbaye and 2017 Nunthorpe - she was bought by John Magnier's son for 6 million guineas and will go to GALILEO - no real surprise. Fellow Group 1 winning sprinter QUIET REFLECTION went to Blandford Bloodstock for 2.1 million guineas while Godolphin snapped up multiple Group winner ZHUKOVA for 3.7 million guineas. She will go to DUBAWI - no surprise there either.

ENABLE's half sister went for 1.1 million and she will go to NATHANIEL.

The session generated turnover of 45,665,000 guineas - up 79% on the corresponding session last year with the average up 90% and the median up from 60,000 guineas to 85,500 guineas.
